■ About The Album

Next's future moves seemed dark as Shin Hae-chul was dishonorably discharged from the military in 1993 due to the cannabis incident, but they return with "The Return of N.EX.T Part 1: The Being" in 1994.

Participating members are Shin Hae-chul (vocal, synthesizer), Lim Chang-soo (guitar), Lee Dong-kyu (base), and Lee Soo-yong (drum), who are called the second generation. But this member is literally a recording member. According to Shin Hae-chul, Lee Dong-kyu, who played drums in his first album, moved to the base because he was unable to play drums due to a car accident, and the original guitarist Jung Ki-song fought with Shin Hae-chul and withdrew during recording. Im Chang-soo, who was urgently recruited due to Jung Ki-song's sudden departure, left the band shortly after recording the album. In addition to them, veteran session man Great Birth, Songgolmae former Lee Geon-tae played one song, Lee Seung-hwan band, and Kim Sun-joong, drummer of Great Birth, played drums in three songs. As a result of such frequent movement of members, Shin Hae-chul himself had no choice but to solder a lot because the roles were not properly divided. In an interview, Shin Hae-chul said, "Since he recorded all of the rhythm guitar parts and synthesizer parts of the second album, and the rest of the parts were recorded by several musicians, it's okay to see the second album as his solo album." Since then, Shin Hae-chul has started promoting other members from his third album to prevent Next from becoming his backup band.

During the activity, Kim Se-hwang, a guitarist from Downtown, joined the team instead of Lim Chang-soo. The fandom classifies the recording members who had Lim Chang-soo as the second group and the live members Kim Se-hwang joined as the third group. Immediately after the album's release, Lee Dong-kyu released a solo album, and Kim Se-hwang, who first joined the team at the time, said that the most difficult thing was an unknown battle between Shin Hae-chul and Lee Dong-kyu. Lee Dong-gyu quit his music career after releasing two solo albums and sang two songs under the name of DkLee on his project album "Alive Gallery" in 2008. Since then, he has been active in the art world and has been in the water leisure business since 2015.

As a result, <BEING> was simply a 'revolution'.

Unlike the previous work "HOME," which had a sharp message but a somewhat soft feeling musically, "BEING" contained heavy and dark music mixed with heavy metal, progressive rock, and electronica. More than half of them were songs made with heavy metal grammar. While expressing the essence of metal at the time, <BEING> was a faithful concept album in terms of content by raising more fundamental issues such as resistance to institutional education ('destruction of the shell'), modern people's dual psychology ('double person'), and vigilance against those who desire eternal life ('about immortality').

Among them, the great song "The Destruction of Shell" following the grand synthesizer opening "The Return of N.EX.T" shocked and terrified listeners. During the running time of 10 minutes, he showed the typical of a heavy metal band that peaked with one song, including guitar and drums that fluctuate throughout the fast race, as well as vocalist Shin Hae-cheol's transformation of four octaves through both low and high notes.

Shin Hae-chul's ability as a vocalist is often criticized as a side dish for drinking, but if you listen to Next's live during this period, you will never be able to underestimate Shin Hae-chul. However, the last track, "The Ocean: About Immortality," is one of the fans' best songs, and it boasts a creepy level of completion with lyrical, grand melody, song-oriented development, and pedantic and acrimonious lyrics reminiscent of King Crimson. The sound as if it were near the surf beach, and the desperate yet magnificent look of the Moog synthesizer reminiscent of the ELP shown in live makes this song a symbol of Next. Of course, one of the most popular numbers at the concert. Shin Hae-chul also commented that it was a song made by concentrating his worries when he was in his 20s at Ghost Station.

In addition, "Double Personality" is also a powerful thrash metal number reminiscent of Megadeth, and "The Dreamer" is a well-made rock ballad that combines orchestra and heavy sound. The lyrics, which are full of secret beauty, contain Shin Hae-chul's feelings at the time of the cannabis incident. It was later remade from N.EX.T's 5.5th album ReGame?, released in 2006. Shin Hae-cheol said that although the recording environment of the song at the time was so bad that he couldn't use the real piano, it felt strangely good and very bitter because he couldn't make this feeling during the remake.

However, among these outstanding songs, the title was selected as the "Fly Chick," which is dainty compared to other songs. Surprisingly, many people were attracted to the warm melody created by acoustic guitars and harmonies, so they bought the album and failed. In a way, it may be similar to the power metal band Stratovarius. Another story about this song is that Lee Seung-hwan's "What song should I make a song about a dog after hearing "Friends' dog" while eating chicken at KFC, and he laughed, "Then, should I make a song with chicken?"I said it a few times at Ghost Station. However, unlike Ghost Station, which was a humorous broadcast, it was mentioned in concerts and broadcasts that Yali's death was so shocking that it later affected him to study philosophy. In the serious section of the radio, he also mentioned that he went to the philosophy department because of the philosophy book of Emmanuel Kant given by his uncle, Bertrand Russell, who was stuck in the family's study, why I am not a Christian.
On February 25, 2017, during the corner of gather ding dong deng, "Yali the star" was aired in lightning town, which dramatized the song. The story is about Yali, a chick, who died and put Pumping Joy, who was disappointed, on top of a lightning rod. As mentioned above, it was during this period that the symbols of Next and the unique intense word art were established. Fans wondered if the symbol, the firebird, was conceived from Horus's eyes, and Jeon Sang-il, a designer, said that he did not have such a thing and that he imagined Shin Hae-chul's eyes. It was also from this period that he began performing in uniforms and armbands that form a strong contrast between black and red. This stage manners was conceived from the Nazi propaganda tool. Of course, when I talked about this again in the future, I said that I would not agree with the Nazi's arguments or ideas at all. It is ironic that one of the reasons why Kadul criticized Next at the time was that he hated the concert because it was like a Nazi national convention. Shortly after recruiting Kim Se-hwang as a side story, he also announced his plan to re-record and release the second album, but it was not achieved.

In Shin Hae-chul's life interview, 500,000 copies were sold, and he expected the album to be sold a lot. This album contains all the desires that rock fans wanted from Shin Hae-chul at the time, so I thought I would buy it like crazy if I listened to it all.
