■ About SHONHWA

They debuted at SM Entertainment in 1998, moved to Good Entertainment in July 2003, and established Shinhwa Company themselves in 2011. Korea's longest-running idol group, which has never been disbanded or its members have left or replaced since its debut. As of 2017, 13 full-length albums and 7 non-regular albums were released, setting the record for the most regular albums by Korean dance groups. Sales of 3,330,714 albums, including regular singles (7 albums during SM, more than 1.2 million after transferring to 2,245,875 albums), and in Japan, two albums surpassed 100,000, and more than 600,000 albums were sold.

It began to gain popularity in 1999, and the period considered to be the heyday is from 2004 to 2005. H.O.T. and SECHSKIES, which reached their heyday in the late 1990s, are the first generation starters, and H.O.T. and jtL were still the top 10 fandom in the early 2000s, and popularity leads to god, jtL, and NRG. Mythology has been in its heyday since the mid-2000s. In the first idol boom market, where mystical beauty boys were the mainstream under the influence of H.O.T., Shinhwa succeeded in differentiating itself by citing strong masculinity, de-mysticism, and colorful dance music.

Although the life span of the first-generation idol group is only three to five years, Shinhwa has reached its heyday by winning the K-pop Grand Prize in its seventh year since its debut in 2004, and all 15 songs, except for its first album, have topped music shows in the past 20 years. He is also one of the few Korean singers to have been able to hold solo concerts at the Seoul Olympic Main Stadium, and his first solo concert, 10th anniversary concert, and 20th anniversary concert were all held at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium.

It is a group that led to the generalization of individual idol activities under the name of "Separately and Together." The first idol group to do both group and individual activities, and one of the few idol groups to hit the jackpot with individual activities. In the early days when individual activities of idol group members were not acceptable, each member succeeded in various entertainment fields such as solo albums, entertainment shows, dramas, and advertisements, and in the mid-2000s, they were so active that they heard that Shinhwa members appeared whenever they turned on the broadcast.

Its strength is that it never lags behind the trend and never loses its unique musical color. The genre representing Shinhwa is dance music with colorful sounds, and it is most famous for its performance among the first-generation idol groups that especially highlighted dance. It is an exemplary example in that it has not only received good reviews for its high perfection and unusual attempts in terms of performance, but also showed that groups that perform dance music can live a long life.
