□ About Bobby Kim

Born in 1973 in Bulgwang-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, he immigrated to San Francisco, California, the U.S., following his father, a trumpet player from the MBC Orchestra, since he was two years old. Bobby Kim also dreamed of becoming a musician when he saw his father, but his father seemed to strongly oppose it, saying, "It's hard to make ends meet with music."

After coming to Korea at the age of 20, and working as an English instructor for a long time, Bobby Kim appeared on an English program for elementary school students called EBS "Exciting ABC" with members in 1995. At first, he came out with the members of Dr. Reggae to dance and sing "lightly," but since Bobby Kim was a Korean-American, he appeared as a supporting actor in the program's skit.

After many twists and turns, he debuted in 1994 with a seven-member traditional reggae band called "Dr. Reggae," and the title song "Difficult Really" was also receiving quite good responses, but two years later, the team was disbanded due to Kim Jang-yoon's involvement in the cannabis incident. Even after the team's disbandment, they continue their musical activities with chorus and featuring by other singers. At that time, dance songs began to become popular, and when I needed someone who could rap fast in English, I started rapping. During this time, when a strange English voice was needed, he would be called in and put in a few words. Bobby Kim's rap "Come on a people on your big~" at the beginning of the title track Twist King of Turbo's second album is also the voice of Bobby Kim.

In 1998, he released the album 'Holy Bumz Presents'. It's Bobby Kim's first album, but it's close to the nature of a project album that combines rap by guest rappers and Bobby Kim's own vocals. In 1999, he worked as a member of the project group Bros, which was organized by Lula's Lee Sang-min, but did not get a very good response.

Since the late 1990s, he has been in charge of rap featuring dance songs by various idol groups. There are many songs by girl groups. BB's "Temptation in the Sky", Fin.K.L's "Temptation" & "Blue Day", Titima's "My Baby", Tuya's "Listen to Me", Papaya's "It's All Right", Circle's "Mi Mi Mi Mi" and mixed TG's "Love Song" album 1 from the album, 5th album, 2nd album from the album of A.T.U.Y.T.T.O.T.T.G.T.O.T.T.T.T.T.O.O.T.O.O.O.O.Many of them are rock songs such as "Ghost Troupe" and Lee Ki-chan's 8th album "My Little Girl." (Y, A Sad Day) also featured in Steve Seung-yu's diss song "Throw Your Hands Up," and one interesting thing is that Bobby Kim also featured in Kim Jin-pyo's fifth title song "Shadow Play," which was released later.

He was active not only as a featured artist but also as a rap guide. If you bring songs and lyrics, Bobby Kim raps and singers record along with Bobby Kim's rap. According to Choi Ja, about 8 out of 10 Korean songs with rap at the time were guided by Bobby Kim.

In 2000, the hip-hop group Boo formed the King's in line with Jubitrain, whom he met under the introduction of Insein Dizzy, who was a member of the Movement Crew, and later became a three-member group, including Gan-D. Thanks to the support of the movement members, Boo released the first King's album "Bugalicious" in 2001, but it was relatively ruined compared to the musicality due to lack of publicity and the enlistment of Jubitrain after the first album. He even decided to give up on his own and work only as a producer and guest.

However, Bobby Kim later participated in Yoon Mirae's album as a feature in the song "Beyond the Endless Sea," and after appearing at Yoon Mirae's concert, he met Jeon Hong-joon, CEO of Bobby Kim's current agency (Oscar Entertainment), and received good reviews for the first time in nearly 10 years since entering Korea.

Bobby Kim was encouraged by Yoon Mi-rae to continue his musical career and release a new album, and Bobby Kim, who had given up his singing career at the time, initially opposed producing the album, but eventually changed his mind and made an R&B-style album. And in August 2004, Bobby Kim's first solo album, "Beats Without My Soul," was released, and the album received positive responses, greatly raising awareness. In addition to the title track "The Whale's Dream," songs such as "Let Me Say Goodbye," the last song of the album, and "It's all right, It's all good" duet with Yoon Mi-rae were also popular, and songs such as "One More Cup" were also used as commercial songs. Although it greatly eased the hip-hop color of the early days of entering Korea, it did not distance itself from hip-hop at all, so there was also a compilation hip-hop track called "I'm Still Here," in which Musafa member Arat, a small group in the movement crew, participated in the featuring. At this point in time when hip-hop has become the mainstream, it seems difficult to understand Bobby Kim's transition to R&B, but it has been common in rock music and metal scenes in the past that musicians in certain genres are moving to popular genres due to their livelihood. In addition, while Bobby Kim lacked Korean skills and his rap style did not fit well with the style that was popular at the time, he was rather competitive as a vocalist due to his unique husky tone and distinctive vocals. Although it started as a hip-hop genre, it is not strange as it is similar to Heize's case among artists in the 2010s in that he continues to maintain contact with the hip-hop scene by releasing albums focusing on R&B.

There is an anecdote about making "The Whale's Dream," in which my father's trumpet was so desperate that he gave me a demo CD at dinner together, but he didn't answer back, but he worked until late that morning and woke up to the kitchen to eat, and he heard his trumpet above the slightly open door of his room. I was moved to tears. It's a story that tells you that there's no parent who wins over their children. So if you look at the song "Dream of a Whale," Bobby Kim's father is included as a featured artist.

Bubu Kings' second album, which was released thanks to the success of the first album, was also quite successful. The title song "Tic Tac Toe" was also popular, with the song itself being good and also being inserted into the Namola Family section of Uzzar.

On April 4, 2011, a fall caused a fracture to the spine. He could have lived with paraplegia for the rest of his life, but fortunately, he recovered well and is living well without paraplegia. The specific issue of the incident was that he slipped from the railing on the second floor of a bar in Gangnam and fell from a height of about 4 meters.

On February 2, 2012, Boo made a comeback as King's and appeared on TV with the song "Don't Go", but the team's activities were put on hold due to the withdrawal of Jubitrain in 2015.
