1집은 음반회사의 부도로 실패를 했으나 96년 발매한 2집 타이틀곡 존재의 이유가 당시 최고의 시청율을 자랑하던 드라마 첫사랑(최수종, 이승연)의 OST로 사용되며 큰 사랑을 받았다.이후 3집 수록곡인 사랑을 위하여는 음반 판매량 110만을 넘기며 밀리언 셀러로 등극했다.

□ About Kim Jong-hwan
He was born on February 1, 1966 in Ahyeon-dong, Seoul, as the youngest of two sons and two daughters. My father, who was a teacher, died early and grew up under my mother. He graduated from Eunro Elementary School in Seoul (1972–1978), Yongsan Middle School (1978–1981), Yongsan High School (1981–1984), and Shinhan University (1984–188). As a quick birthday, I went to school with snakes born in 1965.
He made his debut with an omnibus album in 1985 and made his debut in K-pop. After that, in 1990, Min Hae-kyung sang the song "Miniskirt," written and composed by Kim Jong-hwan, and became a hit. Kim Jong-hwan's first album began in 1990 with "I Have No Rest," but the first album failed due to the bankruptcy of the record company. Another reason is that the first album's title song, "You Without Measures (Faithful Angel)," has been banned from broadcasting due to foul lyrics even now, and the agency has stopped promoting it. That led to him once living in a boarding house and separating himself from his family.
After that, the second album, "The Reason for Existence," released in 1996, was used as the OST for the drama "First Love," drawing a great response, and was ranked as the top four in the K-pop Top 10. In 1996, more than 700,000 copies of "Reason of Existence" were sold, and the third album "For Love" was ranked 12th in the top 10, and sales exceeded 1.1 million, beating singers such as H.O.T, Sechskies, Fin.K.L., SES, Kim Gun-mo, Shin Seung-hoon, Cho Sung-mo, and Kim Hyun-jung.
The album that allowed us to receive the award was released in June 1997, and it was awarded in 1998. In the case of Cho Sung-mo's first album (about 1.38 million copies), which was the most popular among H.O.T. and MBC's joint grand prize, which was much more popular than Kim Jong-hwan's, it was released in September 1998 and charted out by March 1999. However, at that time, the target of Kim Jong-hwan, who sings adult songs, was taken as a shocking surprise because the sales aggregation system of the Recording Industry Association and Hanteo Chart was insufficient and the specific sales were not properly known.
The total album sales reached nearly 3 million, and it was very popular with women in their 30s and 40s in the 1990s, and considering that they mainly purchased pirated albums such as roadboards or highway tapes, the total album sales that did not return to the singer himself were much higher.
He was also fluent in writing and composing, so he made many of the songs he sang.
